Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
A founder of Medidata Solutions, Tarek has served as CEO since 2001 and chairman since 2009. He has more than 30 years of leadership experience in health-tech and finance. Including Medidata’s successful public offering in 2009, Tarek has led Medidata from startup to becoming the leading provider of cloud-based solutions to the life science industry, supporting clinical development globally while defining the vertical cloud company business model.
Tarek received his BA from Yale University and MBA from Columbia Business School. He serves on the boards of the Partnership Fund for NYC and Blue Legacy International, a not-for-profit organization focused on preserving our water resources.
GLEN DE VRIES
Glen is the president and co-founder of Medidata, and the original architect of the Medidata Rave platform. With his deep expertise in medical research and understanding of technology’s role in streamlining complex processes, Glen has been driving Medidata's vision since the company’s inception: Delivering cloud-based solutions to transform the life science industry's approach to bringing new treatments to market.
Glen received his BS in molecular biology and genetics from Carnegie Mellon University, worked as a research scientist at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and studied computer science at New York University's Courant Institute of Mathematics. He is the holder of numerous patents for clinical trial innovations, and is a member of the board of the Young Scientist Foundation and chairman of the board of Dancing Classrooms.
Vice President, Investor Relations
Hulus is responsible for communicating Medidata’s business strategy and financial performance to the global investment community. He played an important role in Medidata’s successful IPO and follow-on offering in 2009.
With over 20 years of investor relations, capital markets and investment research experience, Hulus has worked for a number of investor and public relations, global shareholder research and advisory services firms. He is an active member of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) and served on NIRI’s Board of Directors for four years, including Board Chair in 2013. He is also a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) and the CFA Institute.
Hulus received his BS from University of Hartford and an MBA from Monmouth University.
Senior Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer
As chief accounting officer, David is responsible for all accounting and reporting activity as well as financial planning and analysis for Medidata.
Previously, David spent 13 years at IBM where he was most recently the VP and CFO of IBM's industry cloud solutions division. Among his other experiences, David was the CFO of IBM Latin America in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and was also head of IBM's external SEC reporting and technical accounting policy group. Prior to IBM, David held external and internal audit roles at Price Waterhouse and Readers Digest, respectively.
David holds a BA in accounting with a minor in computer science from Ithaca College and has qualified as a CPA.
Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Cory is responsible for Medidata’s financial and investor relations functions and brings over 20 years of experience in finance, accounting, tax and planning to his role as CFO. Joining the company in 2008, he played an important role in Medidata’s successful IPO in 2009.
Prior to joining Medidata, Cory served as senior vice president, controller of The BISYS Group, Inc. (later acquired by Citibank) and DoubleClick, which subsequently became part of Google. Previously, Cory held a variety of positions at Colgate Palmolive Company and Arthur Andersen.
Cory holds a BS from San Francisco State University and an MBA from The Ohio State University.
Chief Value Officer
Steve brings more than 25 years of customer-facing executive management experience in healthcare and technology-related fields to his position of CVO. Steve and his team provide leadership for value-based thinking across the entire organization and act as the vanguard for customer success.
Most recently, Steve managed Medidata’s global sales, alliances, services and support organizations which helped prepare him for his current role. Previously, Steve served as vice president of sales at I-Many, helping to prepare its successful IPO in July 2000, and spent five years as a business development executive for the Janis Group.
Steve received his BS from the University of Delaware.
Senior Vice President, Chief Data Officer
As chief data officer, David provides vision and leadership for all Medidata initiatives related to data management, innovative analytics, and related business development.
Previously, David was VP of the science division at AIG, where his team developed proprietary predictive models for insurance markets. He was responsible for predicting auto crashes and securities litigation, managing earthquake and hurricane risk, and estimating credit risk of receivables. Prior to AIG, David worked in quantitative and analytical consulting roles at Mercer, a Marsh & McLennan company.
A recipient of the 2012 SAS Enterprise Excellence Award, David holds a BS in biometry and statistics from Cornell University and an MA in statistics from Columbia University.
Executive Vice President, Field Operations
Alan brings over 25 years of experience in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to help lead the field operations team at Medidata, where he is responsible for all direct and channel sales of the Medidata Clinical Cloud platform globally. His experience in ERP systems includes deployments at industry-leading companies including Corning, Pfizer, Bausch & Lomb and Bayer.
Throughout his career, Alan has worked in a wide range of field positions within the software application industry. Prior to joining Medidata, Alan held roles at PeopleSoft, Red Pepper—a provider of supply chain management planning application software—and JD Edwards.
Alan received his BS from Juniata College.
Vice President, Quality & Regulatory Affairs
Fran is responsible for refining and maintaining quality and regulatory standards for Medidata products and services, and ensuring that the organization achieves compliance with these standards and industry best practices.
With over 35 years experience in the pharmaceutical and software industries, Fran has deep expertise in regulatory compliance, including electronic records/electronic signatures, computer system validation, privacy and risk management, with direct experience in the clinical and safety arenas. Previously, she worked for a leading regulatory compliance consulting company and has held positions with Pfizer and Oracle.
Fran received her BS in medical computer science from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and an MBA in pharmaceutical marketing from St. Joseph’s University.
Senior Vice President, Research & Development
Andrew leads a global team of 350 people developing, supporting and operating all products and technologies in the Medidata Clinical Cloud. Andrew is responsible for Medidata's technical and product strategies, developing current and new products to fulfill those strategies, and for support services and the technical operation of the Medidata platform.
Andrew has over 25 years of healthcare and pharmaceutical IT experience. Previously, he founded InferMed Limited, a UK company providing software products for health and life science organizations. Andrew has also held positions with the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and Price Waterhouse.
Andrew received his BA from University of Cambridge in the UK.
Executive Vice President, General Counsel
Mike manages Medidata’s legal affairs and serves as the company’s corporate secretary. His principal areas of focus are securities compliance, corporate governance, commercial negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property and providing legal and strategic advice to the management team and board of directors.
Mike has over 15 years of legal experience working with public and private companies in a variety of industries. Prior to Medidata, he worked for The BISYS Group, Inc. (acquired by Citibank) and held various counsel roles at Globespan and Conexant.
Mike holds a law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and received his BBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Acting Chief Marketing Officer
As acting CMO, Jeffrey is responsible for creating and executing Medidata’s global marketing strategy. Jeffrey brings 20 years of marketing and technology experience to his role, marketing more than 100 products and representing billions in revenue for companies large and small.
Focusing on cloud/SaaS and enterprise software, Jeffrey also has marketing experience in finance, education, publishing and communications. Prior to Medidata, he was VP of Oracle Application Labs where he championed Oracle’s three key cloud application offerings. Previously, Jeffrey provided messaging and positioning services to Microsoft and Cisco, founded Oracle’s messaging team and launched the Analytic Applications product line for Business Objects (acquired by SAP).
Jeffrey holds an MBA and BA from Cornell University.
Executive Vice President, Human Resources
With over 25 years of experience and executive leadership in human resources and business administration, Eileen is responsible for leading the strategic growth and development of Medidata’s global team.
Before Medidata, Eileen spent five years with Rovi Corporation, a publicly traded digital media entertainment software and services company, where she managed all workforce and human resources activity for 2,500 employees worldwide. Throughout her career, Eileen has also held a range of executive positions at Caspian Networks, Inc., Exodus Communications, AppGenesys, Inc., Apple Computer, Charles Schwab, Inc. and Tandem Computers, Inc.
Eileen received her MS from Pepperdine University and BS from the University of San Francisco.
Senior Vice President, Professional Services
Dan leads a global team that supports over 300 Medidata clients, delivering quality services from product configuration and best practices to guidance for clinical development efficiency through Medidata software use and innovative process change.
Dan has over 20 years of pharmaceutical research and development experience. Prior to joining Medidata in 2005, Dan held positions with IBM Business Consulting Services and PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting focusing on clinical development optimization for pharmaceutical and biotechnology organizations and at Schering-Plough performing clinical research.
Dan received his BA from Rutgers University, and holds an MS from New Jersey Institute of Technology and an MBA from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Executive Vice President, Strategy & Corporate Development
As EVP, strategy and corporate development, Bryan is responsible for crafting Medidata's corporate strategy, developing relationships with industry and financial communities, and driving strategic partnerships, mergers and acquisition, joint ventures and other related transactions.
Previously, Bryan was a founding partner of the Technology Investment Banking Team at Centerview Partners, where he was responsible for transaction evaluation, corporate strategy, strategic positioning and capital structure advisory. He’s also held leadership roles at the Technology Investment Banking Groups at UBS Investment Bank and Bear Stearns.
Bryan holds an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.
Managing Director, Asia-Pacific Region
Takeru brings more than 10 years of industry experience in clinical R&D, project management and system implementation consulting to his role as managing director of the Asia-Pacific region.
Takeru began his career at CSK (now SCSK) as a software engineer, where he designed and programmed a wide range of clinical software systems. He then moved to Itochu Techno Science Group (now Itochu Techno Solutions Corporation) to manage the systems integration business for pharmaceutical R&D clients. Since joining Medidata in 2005, he’s held various roles of increasing responsibility in sales and marketing.
Takeru received his BA in science education from Chiba University.
