Best Practice Clinical Trial Pricing Using Benchmark Data
Paying sites accurately for clinical trials can help sponsors save money, gain credibility with sites and increase their ability to successfully meet site enrollment goals. No sponsor wants to pay too much for a trial, but sponsors should also not pay too little. Sponsors who underpay may experience site dissatisfaction, a high quit rate and trial delays. To pay accurately for a study, sponsors first have to know the going rate for a given protocol in the country in question and for the particular therapeutic area and indication. These and other variables make determining a reasonable rate a complex process. The pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries are also dynamic, with new players entering regularly and their knowledge of trial costs and negotiating confidence varying widely, whether they are buying or selling trial services. All these factors make pricing a challenge.
This paper examines the results of a survey and three case studies to provide insights on lowering the costs of clinical trials while still paying accurately.
