Integration of EDC with Other Technologies:

Facilitating Capture of Electronic and Paper Case Report Form Data Through Integration of Electronic Data Capture with Traditional Clinical Data Management Systems

Glen de Vries, Chief Technology Officer, Medidata Solutions, Inc,; and Mary Hickey, Senior Manager, Clinical Data Management, PRA International, Inc.

The use of hybrid paper and electronic data capture (EDC) solutions will continue as the industry embraces new data management paradigms. Not only is the hybrid model relevant in facilitating the transition between these data capture methodologies, but it will also remain an important part of data management practices. EDC can provide substantial efficiencies in data management that makes its implementation valuable. However, sites may be unable to participate in EDC practices, sol alternative data collection methods must be made available. Additionally, sponsors may wish to evaluate the effectiveness of EDC through comparison to traditional data capture methods. For these reasons, the implementation of a system that can incorporate both EDC and traditional methods into a unified data management process is required. The integration of Medidata® EDC with PRA Clinical Data Manager® creates a powerful solution that allows for data collection via electronic and paper case report forms.
