What is the Medidata Professional Certification program?
The Medidata Professional Certification program is a new program that formally recognizes life science industry professionals for their Medidata product skills and experience. The program builds on the well-established Medidata University training program by adding a formal certification process to acknowledge professionals who have undergone specified training and successfully demonstrated their skills and experience through an online assessment.

Who can become a Medidata Certified Professional?
Certifications are available to Medidata customers (employees and site staff), contract research organizations (CROs) and other service providers in the Medidata ASPire to Win® program as well as Medidata employees. In order to take any required certification exam, eligible individuals must have completed all prerequisite coursework and assessments.

How can I pursue a Medidata Professional Certification?
To pursue certification, please contact your Medidata representative or email certification@mdsol.com. If you are a site user—Principal Investigator (PI) or Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC)—please contact your sponsor organization and let them know you are interested in certification. If you are a sponsor interested in certifying your study builders, CRCs or PIs, please contact your Medidata representative or email certification@mdsol.com.

What are the benefits to becoming a Medidata Certified Professional?
The program is designed to recognize professionals serving the life science industry. By attaining a certification, you receive formal recognition for your Medidata product skills and experience and credentials to signal your skills to prospective employers. Upon successful completion of each certification, you receive a personalized certificate and wallet-size card to confirm your certification. As well, you are invited to use the Medidata Certified Professional logo in your business communications, such as email signature, blog/web site, resume and business card. Finally, certifications are portable, so you keep your personal certifications as you advance within your organization or across the industry.

What is the value to clinical research sponsors, CROs and other organizations serving the industry?
This program has many advantages for sponsors of clinical research as well as for the CROs and service providers serving them. Managers of clinical research teams can benefit from the availability of a network of clinical research professionals whose Medidata product skills have been verified by an independent third party. Medidata credentials can help sponsors and CROs streamline activities related to staff selection and teaming assignments. Sponsors and CROs can have a higher level of confidence that professionals have been trained to apply best practices in Rave activities—such as study start-up—to deliver optimal result and reach new levels of quality and efficiency in clinical trials. Moreover, clinical research sponsors, CROs and other service providers who would like their staff to receive certifications will find it easy and cost-effective for their global teams to participate in this online certification process, which is complimentary (no extra charge) to those who have completed all certification prerequisites.

How are certifications tied to product versions?
As new product versions or updates are introduced, Medidata will update the certification requirements and/or exam to reflect current product functionality. Medidata typically only offers one version of each certification track at a time. Requirements for an updated track will be announced before any current track is retired.

Do certifications expire?
No, certifications will not expire, but are “dated” with the actual achievement date along with the product version number that is tested in the examination. Professionals are encouraged to keep skills and certifications up-to-date by pursuing the latest versions of certifications.

What are the requirements to attain a Medidata Professional Certification?
To pursue a certification, an individual must first complete the training requirements as defined for each certification. Depending on the certification, requirements may include instructor-led courses, webinars, eLearning, hands-on building and/or demonstrations. Depending on the certification track, after training requirements have been completed, there may also be a required certification exam.

Where is training offered?
Different training courses are offered in different locations. All eLearning requirements are provided online within Medidata Rave, and can be taken from any location with an Internet connection. Instructor-led courses may be delivered at a Medidata office, at an individual’s own office or at a third-party location (such as investigator training meeting), depending on the course.

How do I prepare for a certification exam?
How do I prepare for the Medidata Grants Manager Certified User exam?
We recommend that you study the training materials, read the help text in the relevant areas of the system, review the prep guide and get hands-on experience using the product before taking the certification examination. We also encourage you to take the Medidata Grants Manager Certified User Prep Course.

How do I prepare for the Medidata Rave Certified Principal Investigator certification or the Medidata Rave Certified Clinical Research Coordinator certification?
The Principal Investigator and Clinical Research Coordinator certifications should require only that you complete the necessary eLearning course and then take the included assessment. The course should teach you everything you need to know!

How do I prepare for the Medidata Rave Certified Study Administrator exam?
We recommend that you study the training materials, read the help text in the relevant areas of the system, review any implementation or user guides available to you from Medidata, review the study guide and get hands-on experience using the product before taking the certification examination. We also encourage you to take the Medidata Rave Certified Study Administrator Exam Prep Course.

How do I prepare for the Medidata Rave Certified Study Builder exam?
We recommend that you study the training materials, read the help text in the relevant areas of the system, review any implementation or user guides available to you from Medidata, review the study guide and get hands-on experience using the product before taking the certification examination. Are the prerequisites (including delta training) offered as public classes?
Depending on the certification track, some of the training prerequisites may be offered through public classes, and other training may require that sessions be scheduled by your organization. Contact your Medidata representative for information about signing up for public classes or scheduling organization-specific sessions.

What does each exam cover?
The exams will cover information presented in the required training for the track, including both the information conveyed by the instructor as well as content in the written course materials. Additionally, any information presented in the system Help text, implementation guides and user guides for the relevant topics may be on the exams.

How long is a certification exam?

What is a passing score for a certification exam?
Typically, a score of 80% or higher must be attained for certification.

If a user fails the exam, can the exam be retaken?
The number of retakes varies by certification track. Please contact certification@mdsol.com for information on retaking certification exams.

What is the cost to attain a certification?
Standard training rates apply for the training prerequisites for each Medidata Professional Certification. There is no fee to take the exam itself. Training costs may be built into your Medidata contract. Please contact your Medidata representative for information on costs for our various training offerings and for details about your specific contract with Medidata.

Can I register online for training and certification?
You can register for some courses online. However, enrolling in most courses and the Medidata Professional Certification program must be conducted through your Medidata representative.

I haven't received email regarding my certification exam enrollment. What should I do?
The Medidata Professional Certification Team uses an email management tool to manage program related communications as well as exam registrations. Please first check to ensure emails are not going into your spam folder, then contact us at certification@mdsol.com for assistance. In some cases, your company may have email filters in place that will intercept the email before it can be delivered to you. Check with your IT department to see if this is the case. The following domains must be on the filter's White List to ensure that you will receive these emails: mdsol.com, en25.com.

Will the names of certified individuals be made public?
Medidata maintains a directory of credential-holders, which may be published online or by other means. This directory will also be used to validate certification credentials upon request. As a credential-holder, you may withdraw your permission to include you in the directory or disclose your certification status at any time upon written request to Medidata at certification@mdsol.com.

Must Study Design and Build Essentials Trainers complete the Medidata Rave Certified Study Builder certification (existing and new)?
In order to become a Study Design and Build Essentials trainer, clients and partners must complete the Study Design and Build Essentials Train the Trainer course. It is strongly recommended that they also attain the Medidata Rave Certified Study Builder credential.

Certification examinations and training are offered in what languages?
Currently certification exams are available in English and/or Japanese, depending on the track. Please visit the Available Certifications page for available examination versions. You can refer to the online course catalog for a listing of course availability by language.

What information is printed on the certification card?
The certification card includes the certification track name (including product version) and date earned, along with the person’s name and program serial number, which Medidata assigns to each certification participant for tracking purposes. On the back of the card, Medidata has included its web site and program contact information (certification@mdsol.com). All card contents are in English.
