Retirement of the Rave Outputs Workshop course

Technical Services announces the retirement of the Rave Outputs Workshop course.

The course is being retired for the following reasons:

  1. This course was not useful if the client did not have VPN access to the Rave database. Since we are not giving VPN access to new clients without extraordinary approval, this general course would not be useful in its present format.
  2. Having a training class available in the Academy catalog that offers clients knowledge on how to access to the Rave database was confusing for clients as we try coach them to use our web service API's only.
  3. A primary use of this course was to instruct clients who want to write their own Configurable Datasets (custom web services).  This is now covered in the Rave Configurable Datasets course, which also covers the Rave data model.
  4. SAS on Demand exposes Clinical Views.  In the past, many clients have taken this course as a way to better understand the Clinical Views in SoD. The use of SAS on Demand to extract Clinical Views data is covered in Medidata Rave Clinical Views Overview Instructor Led training and the Rave Clinical Views Overview eLearning.

For new clients, outputs are available from an extensive collection of Standard Reports in Rave, or for extracts clients can use the SoD (SAS on-Demand) UI in Rave for one-time or scheduled extracts in SAS or CSV (Comma Separated Value)  format, delivered via FTP (File Transfer Protocol).  If your client needs are more complex, contact Dan Keefe or Carlos Calvo in Technical Services for custom reports, custom extracts, or custom integrations to tie client and clients’ vendor systems to the Medidata Clinical Cloud using Cloud Integration.

For existing customers that want to make their own configurable datasets or custom Crystal reports and need training on the Rave database schema, training is available within the Rave Configurable Datasets course (link above).

If you have any other questions, please reach out to your Medidata Project Manager and request they reach out to the Technical Services team for assistance.

Rave Outputs Workshop

Course Description

This 2-day workshop gives an overview of Rave’s Clinical Views and data extraction techniques. Participants learn key topics by writing SQL queries and accessing clinical views in a training environment. The purpose of teaching basic tables is to understand the database identifiers in clinical views and do further customization on clinical view data outside of Rave. The Day 2 exercises are designed mainly for programmers who will directly access the Rave database for extracting their data.

Attendees will learn to:

  • Understand clinical views and basic Rave database tables needed for data extraction
  • Extract the clinical views data from Rave database
  • Extract the clinical data from Rave transactional tables
  • Extract the non-clinical data (operational and metadata) and how to combine them with clinical data
  • Extract the metadata using metric views
